Arena questions...

Ok Ding. 70 woot..

Shadow priest FTW and welcome to the arenas.

A feral druid and I are going to start a 2vs2 team we may recruit a rouge and go 3vs3 but probably not.

I did a little bit of searching on this site (only one not blocked) and came up empty hand on details about how it works.

This is what I know thus far (correct me if I am misinformed) - Pay x amount of G for a team. Go play get points based on the rating of the other team vs your rating. Who you play is based on this as well

From what I have read, it is better to play 10 matches a week vs 100 matches a week. How does this work? How do you get more points for less playing?

How do the arena rewards compare to T4 and T5 and how quickly can one expect to get the area rewards if they are just ok? I dont expect to win every match, but I think we will do ok. We world pvp quite a bit and do rather well (before I hit 70). I guess I am just wondering if you obtain arena points faster than honor points. I know they dont translate 1to1- but if I wanted my arena chest vs my pvp chest, which is quicker to obtain?

What happens if you are in a 2 man team and want to convert to a 3 or 5 man team? Do you lose your points? Are they held individually? Is it true you can have more than 2 people on your team, but only 2 can fight at one time?|||Each game you play raises or lowers your arena rating based on if you win or lose. So if you think you can win more than 60% of you games then play as many as you can. You only need 10 matches ranked matches per week to qualify for arena points. The amount of rating you gain or lose is based on the rating of the team you faced in relation to yours. So if you beat a really good team you will gain more rating then beating a bad team.

The arena awards are hands down the best pvp gear in the game, they sacrifice core stats and some dmg for +stamina and resilience. They are not meant to be used for high end pve content but for high end pvp competition. But they are still better than most lvl 70 blues for pve imo.

You can't convert teams. You can be a member of only 1 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5 team at any given time. You will have to buy a 3v3 charter or 5v5 charter from the arena team register goblin. 2v2 charter costs 80g, 3v3 costs 120g, and 5v5 charter costs 200g.|||What are the team naming guidelines? Max char length? What are some good ones you have seen?|||Start a 2v2 and find out.

Anything goes, you can name the name "we suck alot" "y00 got 0wned" "Asian babes r h0t", "Taurens have big sticks" you can name anything until someone appears you.

Theorotically speaking, you can be in 2v2, 3v3, 5v5 team.

You start at 1500 rating, 1500 rating gives you 250 or so points in 2v2 per week, 300 or so points in 3v3 and 500 or so points in 5v5.

You get 1000 points accumulative just by playing 10 games and win 50% of them. Each arena item cost 1000-3875 points. So you can get 1 item every 1 to 4weeks depending.

It's basically just another grind, you don't have to be good, and you don't even have to play lots of games. Playing 10 games and win all of them is better than playing 100 games and win 40 of them.

[edit]

However, I think the arena system ONLY awards points to your highest arena team points. Correct me if I am wrong.

2v2 rating 2000 = 500 points

5v5 rating 1900 = 700 points

3v3 rating 1850 = 575 points

It will award points based on 5v5 because it yielded more points even though it has a lesser rating than 2v2.

Each member has to play 33% or more of the games to receive points on Tuesdays.|||You only get points for the highest arena points yielding team you are on. Keep in mind that you can go 0-10 in 5v5 and 10-0 in 2v2 but receive more arena points for your 5v5 team. This is because Blizzard wants to put more emphasis on the 5v5 format and thus scales the arena points higher for 5v5 than the other categories.|||Everyone,

Just do a bit of research. Use the tools that Blizzard has given you themselves. Yes, I'm talking about the armory. Go on there and look at list after list of top arena pvpers and their ratings, and every other stat they provide. One thing becomes readily apparent...you get a higher rating the more you pvp, in the vast majority of the cases. But it's much more complex than that, it depends on who you beat also.

Look at the lists of top pvpers and you'll start to notice patterns.|||Sure, great, fine- just ummm... tell blizz to not mark their site as a "game" site so it's not blocked from work and I will get right on that. : )

lol, seriously, i don't know what this site does diff. than the others, but Thank you Thank you Thank you from all of us stuck behind filters.|||Quote:

From my understanding, you DO NOT get a higher rating the more you PvP. You get a higher rating for winning matches. IIRC, you get 15 points for evenly rated battles. More for higher rated opponents, and less for lower rated opponents. When you start out the Arena's you begin with a 1500 rating. Now I am not sure if that rating acts as some type of multiplier when you get arena points or not, but I do know that the points are accumulated based on win percentages, not on the actual amount of wins. If you lose a battle, you lose rating as well.

Does it make sense to do more than the minimum required 10 battles per week? Absolutely it does. If I fight 10 battles in one week and am 7-3 as opposed to running 100 battles and am 70-30, I still have the same win percentage, but I have a net 4 net wins as opposed to 40 net wins in the latter scenario. With an average of a 15 point rating gain per win...at then end of the week I would get a rating increase of 60 points in the first example, while getting 600 point increase in the 2nd.

As I had mentioned before, I am not quite sure if the increase in rating counts as some type of multiplier to the Areana Points I get per week or not, but besides just liking being rated higher, it's great practice running arena's =)
