A message to DK's loving DG

[:1]I am a protection paladin. Imagine the following situation: big AV battle, I'm in the front ranks where I belong, hacking away on a melee enemy while 3 or 4 casters are shooting their bolts at me. Here is where a Death Knight's Deathgrip is wonderful: pull casters and even more preferably, healers into your melee range and waste them with your awesome DPS. But for some reason, most of them seem to prefer to stop 20 yards behind me and pull the melee I am fighting to finish him off, leaving me standing there in the middle of 3 or 4 casters at 20+ yards away. Newsflash: I'm a melee myself and I can handle those other melee's to the best of my abilities; deathgrip the damn casters instead! Deathgripping melee's would be nice if they are pummeling on your squishies, but what exactly is the use of pulling them away from a tank?

I would understand if it would happen every now and then, in the heat of battle it is more often than not hard to correctly choose a target. But when it constantly seems to be repeated, I cannot help but ranting about it!|||also.. pls, when tanks are tanking something.. don't use it on their current target.

had this happen a few times.. tad annoying to say the least.|||Problem is with that, is that I've done it on my DK and... When I do it everyone around me assumes "They've got it." so they leave them to AoE the entire group until everyone's lost 6K health. Then you have 39 people going "WTF DUDE!?"|||Quote:

I don't get this post...

- What did you do?

- Who are the ppl around talking about with "they" and "it"?

- And who's AoE-ing who?|||Quote:

In PvE, you mean? Yep. DG is very useful for taking aggro from the healer or another squishie if they accidently get it, but for crying out loud, don't take it from the tank. I have to specifically ask (tell) DK's not to do that too many times.

Wintrow, I had to read the post a few times myself, but I'm pretty sure Maz meant that, if he pulls casters towards him while he is standing in a group, everyone leaves him to handle that caster, giving the caster time to AoE the living hell out of the group. Which is a good point, in fact. I only have a level 40 mage, but done some WSG with him, and if I end up getting surrounded, you can bet your behind I'll try to Arcane explode as many of the bastards as I can before I get killed myself. :)

Knife cuts both ways, I think. On a side note, I hate generalizing myself and I am sure there are enough DK's out there who don't do that. I am complaining about those who do. Kudos to you guys! (also changed the thread title to make it a little more specific)|||I was replying to the first post, as I thought that was obvious...

Death Grip in AV with an AoE caster = AoE spam in the middle of the group.|||Not if the caster is taken care of, that's why I said the knife cuts both ways. Deathgripping a melee away from a tank has absolutely no use and is in my opinion mostly done for easy killing blows.

And no, it wasn't immediately obvious, to be honest. :)|||I have to ask since you say you were prot: were you using a shield?

If you were, it's fairly reasonable to assume that people will think you are a healer, not prot. (Healers are a lot more common in BGs that tanks.) In that case, they may simply be thinking they are saving e a healer, which is a good thing.|||Yeah was wearing a shield... I had 13K HP and 2K mana though - would have been a sucky healer at level 69. :) Besides, I was in the front ranks going at it in melee, if I was a healer I would be at the back as much as possible. I guess that's the curse of paladin tanks vs warrior or bearform tanks then - people think we are a healer if we are wearing a one-handed. So my other message is, don't assume things automatically and take a second look. :)

But yeah, I know, in PvP it goes quick and it is sometimes hard to judge things correctly and react accordingly. I was just ranting after being in an AV where this happened almost constantly everytime the walls of Alliance and Horde clashed, even after I kindly asked them to watch who they DG over BG channel...|||A win-win solution: DG healers.
